A robotic motion system needs a defined universe of space. In ROME®, the uni-body chassis casted with aluminum alloy forms a solid foundation of space that’s consistent over time. A precision mechanical matrix structure lines up a positioning system with about 70,000 connection points. The matrix in its 3-dimension embeds the patented mechanical latching mechanism.
An automatic start-up process, called homing, directs the robots to their zero’s in X, Y and Z dimensions as robots wake up to their finite universe of space. Robotic Control Units (RCU) direct the motion in the accuracy of single micro-meter level through servo control system. Logical Control Unit (LCU) is a separate 1RU chassis that hosts CPU, memory, driver with real time OS and ROME software, as well as redundant power feeds and network and console interfaces.
Fiber optic connection through robotic motion is what ROME achieves automatically driven by network orchestration. Slack management for fiber cables is a tall order of challenge in the high density 19” chassis of ROME. A pulley system from the fundamental physics is re-invented to take advantage of the trade-off of force and distance in a passive way.
Operational and environmental sensors are implemented throughout ROME system. Intelligent software features and learning capability keep ROME working in mission critical applications for years to come.
